I saw this piece this weekend. It was surprisingly small. In fact, most of the pieces I love were so skewed in scale in my head. This one is sometimes called a “study”, which is a word that diminishes its seriousness. It’s not a study at all. It’s a complete concept en route to a larger work (which was never performed.)
